ABOUT US
The Outer Banks Chorus traces its origins back to 1987 when Mr. Forest Persons Warren, alongside his wife Marilyn, founded the ensemble under the name "Outer Banks Chorale." Notably, one of their standout performances during this period was "Amahl and the Night Visitors," a piece that garnered acclaim over two consecutive years. Additionally, they showcased their talent with George Handel's "Messiah."
By 2003, the chorale evolved into the "Outer Banks Senior Chorus" under the guidance of Mr. Lee Kearney. W. Scott Hopkin directed the senior chorus in "Music, the Circle of Life." Christopher Kypos also conducted the ensemble in 2008.
In 2010, under the direction of Dr. David Evans, the chorus underwent a transformation to better reflect its diverse membership, encompassing participants of all ages. Consequently, the name was changed to the "Outer Banks Chorus," marking a departure from its previous senior-centric identity.
Since 2015, the chorus, under the current leadership of Mr. Kyle J. Cook, has continued to build on this legacy. Kyle's passion, musicality, and strong sense of leadership empower and encourage each member of the chorus. Under his direction, the chorus has grown to over 100 members which includes a diverse array of singers ranging from high school and college students through all ages of adulthood.
Our logo also dates back to 1987. It was originally used by the Outer Banks Chorale, and was later approved for use by The Outer Banks Chorus by Mrs. Marilyn Meyer Warren. Our logo serves as a testament to the organizations's enduring legacy.
