ABOUT US
The Outer Banks Chorus traces its origins back to 1987, when Forest Persons Warren, alongside his wife Marilyn, founded the ensemble under the name Outer Banks Chorale. By 2003, the chorale evolved into the Outer Banks Senior Chorus. In 2010, the chorus underwent a transformation to better reflect its diverse membership, encompassing adults of all ages. Consequently, the name was changed to The Outer Banks Chorus, marking a departure from its previous senior-centric identity.
The logo of the Outer Banks Chorus dates back to 1987, originally used by the Outer Banks Chorale and later approved for use by The Outer Banks Chorus by Mrs. Marilyn Meyer Warren. The logo serves as a testament to the organization’s enduring legacy.
Under the direction of Kyle J. Cook since 2015, the Chorus has grown exponentially, now comprising nearly 120 singers of all ages—including high school and college students. The ensemble has received multiple grants from the Outer Banks Community Foundation, allowing for the purchase of new equipment and a rehearsal piano.
The Outer Banks Chorus regularly performs two major concerts per year with diverse programming ranging from classical masterworks and Broadway selections to multi-cultural and thought-provoking themes. The group has performed major works such as Handel’s Messiah, Menotti’s Amahl and the Night Visitors, and Vivaldi’s Gloria, and is known for drawing record audiences from across the region. They have also performed at special events such as the GEM Candle Lighting Ceremony, WinterLights at the Elizabethan Gardens, and the Corolla Christmas Village.
In June 2025, The Outer Banks Chorus embarked on a landmark international concert tour of Italy. The tour included visits to Montecatini, Florence, Siena, and Rome, with formal concerts held in both Florence and Rome. One of the most unforgettable highlights of the trip was the honor of singing during Mass at St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City—an extraordinary experience that marked a defining moment in the ensemble’s history.
Throughout its rich and evolving history, The Outer Banks Chorus has remained dedicated to preserving the art of choral singing, fostering community, and sharing the joy of music with audiences near and far.
